Early-onset Alzheimer's disease, 30-65

Professor Donna Wilcock discusses early-onset Alzheimer's disease, which can reach an advanced stage by the age of 50 or 60 years.

There are several different types. Early-onset familial Alzheimer’s disease is typically caused by genetic mutations that we can follow through families. These genetic mutations, for the most part, increase the production of amyloid beta in the brain. These patients, typically by 50 or 60 have reasonably advanced Alzheimer’s disease.
