Serotonin: suicide, aggression, and impulsivity

Professor James Potash discusses findings that aggressive people, people who commit suicide, and people who commit impulsive acts have been shown to have decreased levels of serotonin.

Impulsivity and aggression have both been linked to serotonin. People who commit suicidal acts and people who commit aggressive acts and people who commit impulsive acts have been shown to have reduced levels of serotonin, irrespective of their mood state, so one of the thoughts in increasing serotonin levels is it removes some of the impulsivity, which certainly from the standpoint of self harm is a very, very positive thing.
