Myosin V, also known as A0149, is a processive, non-muscle actin-based motor protein that undergoes multiple catalytic cycles and can move in large steps through the actin filament.
Myosin V, also known as A0149, is a processive, non-muscle actin-based motor protein that undergoes multiple catalytic cycles and can move in large steps through the actin filament. This protein may have functions for organelle (including melanosome) transport and neurite outgrowth. Many spontaneous mutations in this gene have been identified in mice. Some of those cause lethality and others produce pigmentation or neurological phenotypes. Gene mutation in humans may cause Griscelli syndrome that is characterized by pigmentary dilution and defects in either the central nervous system or immune system.
