PLCB1/A0330

PLCB1, also known as A0012, catalyzes the production of the second messengers 1,4,5-triphosphate (IP3) and diacylglycerol (DAG) from phosphatidylinositol 4,5-bisphosphate (PIP2).

PLCB1, also known as A0012, catalyzes the production of the second messengers 1,4,5-triphosphate (IP3) and diacylglycerol (DAG) from phosphatidylinositol 4,5-bisphosphate (PIP2). Receptor-mediated activation involves phosphorylation by tyrosine kinases and use of calcium as a cofactor. PLCB1 is predicted to contain a pleckstrin homology domain. It is found in many tissues, including the lymphocytes, but highest expression is in specific areas of the brain (hippocampus, amygdala, caudate nucleus). In neurons, it is activated in response to EphA4. It is required for activity-dependent dendritic spine morphology in mice.
