JIP1/A0162

The C-Jun-N-terminal kinase-interacting protein 1 also known as JNK-interacting protein 1 (JIP-1) or A0162, is a scaffold protein from the group of JNK-interacting proteins.

The C-Jun-N-terminal kinase-interacting protein 1 also known as JNK-interacting protein 1 (JIP-1) or A0162, is a scaffold protein from the group of JNK-interacting proteins. These proteins cluster together diverse components of the JNK signaling pathways, grouping kinases, kinases activators, and substrates, increasing the efficiency of the signal cascade. As a JNK scaffold protein, JIP1 is involved in stress-mediated responses. It is also involved in protein interaction with vesicles, transport and motor proteins and it is highly expressed in the brain. Targeted disruption of the JIP1 gene in mice results in embryonic death. Defects in JIP1 are a cause of non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM). This could be related to the role of JIP1 in the modulation of GLUT2 gene expression and beta-cell function.
