PKCβ/A0168

The protein kinase C beta 1 (PKCβ, also known as A0168), is one of the isoforms of protein serine/threonine kinase C (PKC).

The protein kinase C beta 1 (PKCβ, also known as A0168), is one of the isoforms of protein serine/threonine kinase C (PKC). At least 10 isoforms have been described. PKC belongs to the AGC group of protein kinases. The different isoforms are classified according to their activation requirements. The classical or conventional isoforms (cPKC), include PKCα, βI, βII and γ, and are regulated by calcium and diacylglycerol (DAG). The novel PKCs (nPKC), PKCδ, ε, η and θ are activated by DAG but calcium independent. The atypical isoforms (aPKC), PKCζ and λ/ι are regulated by DAG/ phorbol ester and are calcium insensitive. PKCβ is particularly involved in the immune response signaling pathway. Mice with targeted disruption of the PRKCB1 gene are immunodeficient and present with impaired immune humoral response and reduced B cell cellular responses similar to X-linked immunodeficiency. These mice are unable to activate the nuclear factor kappa-B (NFk-B)-signaling pathway in B cells in response to antigen-receptor signaling.
