LIN7A/A0141

LIN7A (lin-7 homolog A (C. elegans), also known as VELI1 or A0141 in humans), is a PDZ domain-containing protein.

LIN7A (lin-7 homolog A (C. elegans), also known as VELI1 or A0141 in humans), is a PDZ domain-containing protein. Its structure implies a role in synaptic vesicle exocytosis and neuronal cell adhesion. LIN7A has been shown to interact with the neuronal molecular motor molecule, KIF17. Since KIF17 regulates GRIN2B transport in dendrites, LIN7A may influence synaptic plasticity. LIN7A shows discrete expression patterns in particular groups of neurons in the mammalian brain. Subcellularly, LIN7A is found both presynaptically in axons and post-synaptically in dendrites. LIN7A knock-out mice display no detectable phenotype at the level of hippocampal synaptic transmission and synaptic plasticity.
